We are a law firm. We represent disabled people seeking Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits.

Both our lawyers, Gary Flack and Michel Phillips, have extensive experience in Social Security and SSI disability cases. Both Mr. Flack and Mr. Phillips are members of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives.

We generally charge no fee unless we win your case. (This refers only to fees charged by the attorney. Such contingent fees are not permitted in all types of cases. Court costs and other additional expenses of legal action usually must be paid by the client.)

We have no computer switchboard! Call our offices from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and your call ordinarily will be answered by a courteous, competent, helpful, on-premises live human member of our staff. Frequently Asked Questions

1. When do I need a lawyer?

Social Security will allow you to represent yourself if you choose to do so. However, Social Security and SSI disability cases are often quite complex, both medically and legally. If your disability application is denied, you have 60 days in which to request an appeal. If you desire legal assistance with your case, call us promptly after you receive your denial notice, so we can help you appeal within the 60 day period.

2. What is the fee?

We generally charge no fee unless we win your case. When we win your case, Social Security will most likely pay you a "lump sum" of retroactive benefits. Our usual fee is 25 percent (one-fourth) of your lump sum, or $5,300.00, whichever is less.

"We generally charge no fee unless we win your case" refers only to fees charged by the attorney. Such contingent fees are not permitted in all types of cases. Court costs and other additional expenses of legal action usually must be paid by the client.

3. Will Social Security pay my disability benefits back to the date I applied for them?

In most cases, the claimant receives a "lump sum" of retroactive benefits when she wins her case. The dates used to calculate this lump sum can vary, depending on whether it is a regular Social Security claim or an SSI claim, and on other factors. We are happy to explain in detail to each of our clients how these factors can affect his or her individual case.

4. How long does the process take?

This depends on several factors. However, it is common for cases to take one to two years. This is a good reason to be sure your appeal is filed on time, so you do not have to start the process over at the beginning with a new application.

5. How do I apply for Social Security or SSI disability benefits?

Call the Social Security Administration at 800-772-1213 for the location and phone number of the SSA District Office nearest you. Then call the District Office and make an appointment to file your application.
